Pre-owned signed jewellery care and Digital Passport service

Master Jewellers and Maestri Orafi

A jewellery laboratory protocol for pre-owned luxury pieces

Maison Designers treats pre-owned jewellery as a high-value object with identity, material history, condition, craftsmanship and provenance. Before suitable care or restoration work is performed, the item is registered, photographed, inspected and documented so that authentication, condition and completed services can be clearly recorded.

  • Authentication review and brand consistency checks for signed jewellery.
  • Gemological assessment of diamonds, fancy colour diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds and selected coloured stones.
  • Perizia, appraisal support and item record preparation for selected pieces.
  • Condition reference with images, inclusions, wear notes and service status.
  • Master jeweller inspection of metal, setting, stones, clasps, links and structure.
  • Repair, restoration, cleaning, polishing, rhodium or plating only where suitable for the piece.
  • Digital Passport preparation connecting identity, authenticity, condition and care history.
  • Premium insured shipping, secure packaging and controlled handover where arranged.

The objective is not to over-process a collectible jewel. The objective is to preserve value, restore function where appropriate, improve presentation with restraint and document the work with the discipline expected for luxury pre-owned assets.

Luxury jewellery condition and care review

Professional jewellery services

Services available by inspection, quotation and suitability review

Each item is assessed before work starts. Some services are performed directly by Maison-appointed specialists; others are coordinated with trusted master goldsmiths, gem setters, gemmologists or restoration partners depending on the brand, material and value of the jewel.

Gemological Assessment & Valuation

Specialist review of diamonds, fancy colour diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, rubies and selected coloured stones, including visible characteristics, setting context, documentation review and valuation support where appropriate.

Authentication & Perizia

Brand marks, signatures, hallmarks, construction, metal, stones, setting style, workmanship, serial or reference details and available documents are reviewed for consistency.

Messa a Misura / Sizing

Ring sizing, bracelet adjustment and chain length modification, including reducing or enlarging where technically possible. Work may include adding metal, removing sections, rejoining, blending and final finishing.

Structural Restoration

Restoration of worn or damaged jewellery, including open jump rings, broken links, cracked metal, worn ring shanks, damaged bails, earring posts, butterfly backs, clasps and necklace or bracelet components.

Laser and Torch Soldering

Precision soldering or laser repair for selected metals and settings, used to restore broken links, clasps, mountings, ring shanks and delicate structural points with controlled heat management.

Stone Setting

Setting and re-securing diamonds, coloured stones or pearls in claw, bezel, pave, channel, rail or invisible settings, subject to stone condition and mounting suitability.

Prong and Setting Control

Inspection, tightening, retipping or rebuilding of claws and settings to reduce the risk of stone loss, with particular attention to daily-wear rings, earrings and bracelets.

Stone Sourcing and Replacement

Sourcing replacement diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds, coloured stones or pearls to match size, cut, colour, quality and setting requirements where a stone has been lost, chipped or unsuitable.

Pearl and Bead Restringing

Restringing of pearl or gemstone necklaces and bracelets using appropriate thread, spacing and safety knots where required, including clasp assessment and replacement where needed.

Cleaning and Ultrasonic Care

Professional hand cleaning, sanitisation, steam or ultrasonic cleaning where suitable. Pearls, opals, emeralds, enamel, glued stones and fragile vintage settings may require hand-only handling.

Polishing and Finishing

Controlled polishing, satin finishing, brushed, matte or hammered finish restoration, always considered against originality, metal loss, hallmarks, engraving and long-term collector value.

Rhodium, Gold and Palladium Plating

Rhodium replating for white gold or silver, plus selected gold, rose gold or palladium plating services where technically appropriate and clearly quoted before work begins.

Engraving

Hand, pantograph or laser engraving for initials, dates, symbols, serial-style marking or precision decorative work, subject to available surface, material and design approval.

Upcycling and Redesign

Transformation of older jewels into a refreshed design using original metal and stones where approved by the client and suitable for the item value, materials and setting.

Digital Passport

Preparation of a Maison Digital Passport linking item identity, authentication review, gemological notes, condition reference, services performed, images and status controls.

Maison jewellery workflow

From expert intake to protected handover

A compact workflow gives the client immediate clarity and gives Maison Designers a reliable record of what was requested, inspected, approved, restored, documented and delivered.

Digital Passport for pre-owned jewellery

A stronger record for authenticity, condition and value

For selected jewellery, Maison Designers can create a Digital Passport that supports the item beyond the first sale: identity, authentication review, gemological notes, condition, service history, images, delivery status and future resale confidence.

  • Item identity, brand, reference or serial details where available.
  • Authentication, gemological and perizia-linked service notes.
  • Condition baseline and visible-care record.
  • Cleaning, polishing, repair, sizing, setting or restoration services performed.
  • Ownership, return, cancellation or dispute status controls where applicable.

Care boundaries

Respecting materials, originality and legal rights

Not every piece should be cleaned, ultrasonically treated, polished, altered, plated or restored. Maison Designers may refuse or adapt a requested service where the jewellery, stones, setting, age, maker, hallmark, enamel, pearl condition or provenance make the work unsuitable.

Delicate Materials

Pearls, opals, emeralds, turquoise, coral, enamel, glued stones, hollow construction and fragile vintage settings may need specialist hand-only handling or no intervention.

Collector-Safe Decisions

Polishing, plating and restoration can affect originality, patina, hallmarks and long-term value. Maison Designers takes a conservative approach for collectible signed jewellery.

Documented Service

Completed work is recorded for client, resale, accounting, insurance and evidence purposes, including Digital Passport preparation where applicable.
